Jennifer your portrait paintings are very lovely. I always enjoy the different combinations of colors that employ in your work. I generally use my leftover paint as background for a future painting. Occasionally for fun, I have used small blobs of paint in different shapes to use for faces to make cartoonish type characters. Then, I would use a fine marker or brush pen in black to draw a face, hair, and a silly body with clothes. Also, I have used the same kind of blobs to make silly bugs or animals just for fun. Also, if you do a kind of daily sketchbook with some written words, you can use the extra paint to make frames, like a square, rectangle , circle etc. Then, you could draw, paint or write in these squares. I’ve used watercolor, acrylic, acrylic gouache, and Inktense paints to make these frames. They’re just something different to help you fill your sketchbook.
FRAMES!! Great idea…this is a great way to break up a big page into bite sized pieces for children! I will definitely have to try this with our art projects!
Thank you for inviting me into your sketchbook! So funny that I ran across your post this evening talking about what to do with extra paint. In my post going out tomorrow, I talk about how I used extra paint that was puddled on my messy mat from a children’s art project. The pattern that was created was a surprise and so fun to make. Just by gently placing a piece of paper on top of the paint and creating an art print! Love “recycling” paint in different ways!
That is a great way to use up the left over paint on your palette. I would sometimes smoosh it into my on-location sketchbook so I can have an underpainting that I can draw onto at a later point in time. I have gotten some great and unexpected results from doing that.
Love seeing your sketchbook and hearing your process! My paintings all start with a colorful background so whenever I’ve paint to use up, I cover up the white space on a new canvas, which has led to some really amazing color realizations ♥️
What a fabulous, loose way to get even more pleasure out of paint. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely idea. I appreciate your openness in sharing your work.
Trying to sign up for the workshop in Eventbrite. I see your note that you can’t do so via the app; however I don’t see a URL to the web browser. Can you share that? Thank you!
If you just click the link on your computer it should work. It's very confusing and annoying. I'm so sorry. (The problem is if you are on the phone and you have the app installed)
Seeing your sketchbooks is so inspiring to me - to get going on my own. Thank you!
Yes, do it, even just splash a day!

Amazing Shirley, great ideas, I often do the dot faces but not with extra paint. Those are so enjoyable! Love the frame idea too! Thanks!

Thanks Karina!

It really helps to cover up all that white space !!! I love your beautiful colors!
Yes! Thank you 💓 I love color!

Work quickly and see what happens.
Love your quick "portraits".
Thank you so much Maryann!

Thank you Sharon. I like sharing!
Love seeing the sketchbook! love the idea of using the paint, I may try it....
You should, It's a stress free way to get some painting in!
Great idea! Thank you. I’m inspired to even just make background colors, so I’m not always confronted with a glaringly white blank page.
It helps for that purpose. The white page can seem intimidating!
What a fun way to use leftover paint! 😍
Yes!
Thank you, Jennifer. Yes, I’ve made faces along with you in one of your workshops. It’s a very fun exercise to do.
What is this fabulous journal?
Gosh, I don't remember.. I got it from Carolina Della Valle @makingme It doesn't have a name on it though..
