How I use up Extra Paint and a New Zoom Class
Take a peek inside my stylized portrait notebook. And on March 3rd we have a new zoom class.
Hello everyone!
Greetings to all my new subscribers. I’m so glad you all are here. Below the new class details is a quick flip-through of the notebook I use to use up all the expensive extra paint on my palette after a day of work. I’m trying to put it all to good use.
We have a new Paint with Gayle & Jennifer workshop! March 3- 1-3 pm EST.
Taught by me and my co-teacher

In this class, we will focus on placing a person or persons in a scene. After painting in Oaxaca for a week we are so inspired to share this with you! More details are in the link.
We love keeping these Zoom workshops donation-based so they are accessible to everyone. Please keep in mind that we work hard to give you great classes, so we appreciate that those of you who can afford to pay more will do so, and this helps those who can afford less! We will be donating a portion of our proceeds to Vital Voices, an organization that invests in women in leadership roles taking on the world’s greatest challenges.
We suggest a minimum of $20, but we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford.
ARE YOU TRYING TO BOOK VIA THE EVENTBRITE PHONE APP?!
We have been in touch with Eventbrite, who let us know that you cannot book tickets to online events in their app. It's very frustrating. In the meantime, we recommend that you delete the phone app (especially if you’re a regular!) or book tickets to our workshops outside of the iOS app - either via a web browser or a desktop.
Note: EVERYONE who signs up, for the live class or for video only will get the recording. It will not expire.
Here is a glimpse into my sketchbook. Each page was done in just a few minutes. There are no right or wrongs here.
I sometimes take my extra paint and smush it around in a sketchbook and use that as background for a future painting. I decided to add this stylized portrait practice into the mix, mostly because it’s fun! I work hard at not just throwing away the paint, for a variety of reasons of course. What do you do? I’d love to hear. I love experimenting and try to keep a healthy sense of play in my work. So any of your ideas may be incorporated. If you start this one I’d love to see what you come up with!
xxx Jennifer
Seeing your sketchbooks is so inspiring to me - to get going on my own. Thank you!
Jennifer your portrait paintings are very lovely. I always enjoy the different combinations of colors that employ in your work. I generally use my leftover paint as background for a future painting. Occasionally for fun, I have used small blobs of paint in different shapes to use for faces to make cartoonish type characters. Then, I would use a fine marker or brush pen in black to draw a face, hair, and a silly body with clothes. Also, I have used the same kind of blobs to make silly bugs or animals just for fun. Also, if you do a kind of daily sketchbook with some written words, you can use the extra paint to make frames, like a square, rectangle , circle etc. Then, you could draw, paint or write in these squares. I’ve used watercolor, acrylic, acrylic gouache, and Inktense paints to make these frames. They’re just something different to help you fill your sketchbook.
