The souk often had slotted ceilings, and the light came through in a beautifully striped pattern. This was painted with 3 colors plus black and white.
When I got home from Morocco, I felt compelled to sit down and paint many of the beautiful moments that had filled my days there. Today’s newsletter is a visual scroll through the paintings I’ve created since returning. There are no big lessons or ideas here, just my joy of capturing what moved me. Sometimes, that’s enough. And now that I’ve been home for a few weeks, some of the gut feelings are leaving me. I’m glad I got these done right away while the inspiration struck!
This man was selling fruit on a table on the street. I made it a bit more lush than it was. There are generally nice walls and doorways in the background.
An old woman against a beautiful wall. The zig zag up top was beautifully etched into the plaster.
This lady was in the fields pulling a donkey. The wheat was a beige color, and I first painted it that way. It only came to life when I boldly changed it to bright yellow.
We visited a woman’s cooperative, a stop on one of the long car rides. They were making rugs, spinning yarn, and of course selling rugs. I resisted buying any this time, but I did get some on my last trip!
This woman worked in a vegetarian restaurant in Marrakesh called La Famille. It’s a lovely spot to eat if you go.
This is the woman who scrubbed me down in the hammam at our retreat. She was a lovely lady. It was nice to get a hammam in between teaching!
Another sketch I drew on the trip, in the Muji sketchbook.
Here’s a bouquet,
and a friendly face to kick off your weekend, we need it!
Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!!!
